Introduction

Annapurna circuit trek is consistently ranked among the top ten trekking destinations in the world taking you from lush subtropical jungles to dense Alpine forests culminating with the challenging cross at Throng-La pass. Overall this trek is considered more moderate than other treks in Nepal. Along the way you will follow the Marsyangdi river before Throng-la pass and the Kalighandagi river after. Undoubtedly this trek will give a chance to enjoy the awe inspiring mountain scenery including Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Gangapurna and many more. If you are short on time we are able to accommodate an abbreviated itinerary by taking a flight back to Pokhara from Jomsom.

When you book a trip through Beyond Base Camp Treks we require that you obtain a travel insurance policy. We recommend your insurance includes medical coverage for high altitude, emergency repatriation, trip cancellation and other travel mishaps (e.g. flight cancellations or delays, trip interruption, or loss of luggage and personal effects). The medical and emergency repatriation are compulsory for your trip. Medical care in the Himalayas is remote and the coverage in your insurance will ensure the best care and transport should an emergency arise. Altitude Sickness is a very real possibility, although our guides are trained to detect and help curb the effects, it is never a guarantee that you may not suffer some serious symptoms that require medical attentions.

Altitude sickness, also called Acute Mountain Sickness(AMS), is a group of general symptoms that are brought on by rapidly climbing or walking to a higher altitude too quickly. It happens because the body doesn’t have enough time to adapt to the lower air pressure and lower oxygen level in the air at high altitudes. Altitude sickness can affect anyone and does not discriminate by age, sex, or general health. We try to manage and minimize the effects of altitude sickness by building in acclimatization days during the treks above 3000m. Most people will experience some common effects of altitude including shortness of breathe and lightheadedness. Your trained guide will monitor you daily and it is important to be honest about any effects of altitude you may be feeling, signs of mountain sickness typically present with enough advanced notice that we can minimize severe symptoms.

There are three stages of AMS:
1) Normal AMS symptoms- expect but no worries
2) Mild AMS symptoms- Don’t go higher
3) Serious AMS symptoms- Decent immediate

Please Note: Also our guide will carry the first-aid kit bag during the trek. However, we still recommend you to bring your personal first-aid kit as well
